Dakini mantras are esoteric formulas used in Hindu Tantra and Vajrayana Buddhism to invoke the presence and blessings of dakinis—female wisdom spirits or enlightened energies associated with transformation, insight, and swift spiritual activity.  “Summoning” a dakini, in authentic traditions, is not a casual ritual but a disciplined sādhanā (spiritual practice) that typically requires preparation, ethical grounding, and often a teacher’s guidance.

## What is a Dakini?

In South Asian esoteric traditions, a dakini (Sanskrit: ḍākinī) is a powerful female entity or energy.
In Hindu Tantra, dakinis are often linked to yoginīs, goddess attendants, or fierce aspects of the Divine Mother (e.g., Kālī, Tripurasundarī) who guard secrets, grant siddhis (powers), and can reveal hidden knowledge.
- In Vajrayana Buddhism, dakinis represent wisdom-in-action—the dynamic, intuitive, and sometimes fierce expression of enlightened mind. They appear as consorts of buddhas, as protectors, or as inner energies that cut through delusion.

## Common Dakini Mantras

Different lineages use different mantras. Below are widely cited examples.

### Vajrayana (Buddhist) Dakini Mantras

These are generally considered safer for lay practitioners when done with devotion and proper visualization, and some teachers allow them without formal empowerment if approached respectfully.

- **General invocation**:
  **OṂ ḌĀKIṇĪ HŪṂ PHAṬ**
Used to call upon a dakini’s blessing for wisdom and transformation.

- **Vajrayoginī / Vajravārāhī heart mantra** (a key dakini form):
**OṂ OṂ OṂ SARVA BUDDHA ḌĀKIṆĪYE VAJRA VARṆAMAYE VAJRA BEROTZANAYE HŪṂ HŪṂ HŪṂ PHAṬ PHAṬ PHAṬ SOHĀ**
Variants exist; some add “HRĪṂ” or other seed syllables.

- **Five Wisdom Dakinis** (each with a color and activity):
  - Buddha Dakini (white, peaceful) – seed syllable **BAM**
  - Vajra Dakini (blue, subjugating) – seed syllable **HA**
  - Ratna Dakini (yellow, increasing) – seed syllable **RI**
  - Padma Dakini (red, magnetizing) – seed syllable **NI**
  - Karma Dakini (green, all‑activities/supreme) – seed syllable **SA**
Practitioners may chant each dakini’s mantra while visualizing her color and function.

### Hindu Tantric / Folk Dakini Mantras

These are more varied and often tied to specific sādhanā manuals, śābar mantras, or local lineages. Many are presented in YouTube videos and blogs with strong warnings about proper conduct.

- A commonly shared “Dakini–Shakini” type mantra (for revelation or truth‑compelling) appears in folk contexts, but exact wording and method differ by source and are frequently tied to rituals involving offerings, specific times (midnight), and places (cremation grounds, riverbanks, forests).
- Some traditions emphasize a **21‑day night sādhanā**, beginning on a Thursday or during Navarātri, facing north or east, with preliminary mantras to Gaṇeśa, Śiva, and the guru before the main dakini mantra.

Because these practices are highly lineage‑specific and sometimes involve taboo elements (e.g., meat, liquor, nudity, cremation grounds), authentic teachers stress that they should not be attempted casually or without guidance.

## How Dakinis Are “Summoned” in Practice

In serious traditions, “summoning” a dakini means establishing a relationship through sustained sādhanā, not a one‑off spell. Typical elements include:

### 1. Preparation and Ethics

- **Purification**: Bathing, clean clothes (or specific ritual attire), and a clean, quiet space.
- **Ethical foundation**: Many teachers require basic moral discipline (non‑harming, truthfulness, sexual restraint or regulated conduct) before working with fierce energies.
- **Guru/lineage**: In both Buddhist and Hindu Tantra, having a qualified teacher is strongly recommended, especially for advanced or “left‑hand” (vāmamārga) practices.

### 2. Setting and Timing

- **Time**: Nighttime is commonly prescribed, especially midnight, for dakini sādhanā.
- **Place**: A secluded room, forest, riverbank, or (in advanced Tantra) a cremation ground. Some folk instructions insist on deserted places; others allow a private room if done with sincerity.
- **Direction**: Often north‑ or east‑facing.

### 3. Ritual Structure (Simplified, Devotional Approach)

A basic, devotional framework (without extreme elements) might look like this:

1. **Preliminary prayers**
   - Chant a few rounds of:
     - **OṂ GAṂ GAṆAPATAYE NAMAH** (to remove obstacles)
     - **OṂ NAMAH ŚIVĀYA** (to invoke grace)
     - **OṂ HRĪṂ GURAVE NAMAH** (to honor the guru/lineage)
2. **Offerings**
   - Light a lamp (dīpa) and incense (dhūpa).
   - Offer something simple and pure (flowers, water, sweets) according to your capacity and tradition.

3. **Visualization**
   - Visualize a dakini form (e.g., Vajrayoginī or a five‑colored wisdom dakini) in front of you, luminous, holding a hooked knife (kartṛkā) and skull‑cup (kapāla), radiating wisdom light.
   - See her seed syllable (e.g., **BAM**, **HA**, **RI**, **NI**, **SA**) at her heart, glowing in her color.

4. **Mantra Recitation**
   - Choose one mantra (e.g., **OṂ ḌĀKIṇĪ HŪṂ PHAṬ** or a Five Dakinis mantra set).
   - Recite it on a mālā (rosary) for a set count daily (e.g., 108, 1,008, or as advised by your teacher).
   - Maintain devotion and the sense that you are inviting wisdom, not demanding favors.
5. **Closing**
   - Thank the dakini, visualize her light dissolving into your heart, and dedicate the merit for the benefit of all beings.
### 4. Advanced or “Fierce” Methods (Caution)
Some texts describe extreme methods: climbing a semal (silk‑cotton) tree at night, chanting for years in specific postures, or using cremation‑ground rituals with meat and liquor.  These are:
- Intended for highly prepared practitioners within specific lineages.
- Potentially dangerous psychologically and socially if attempted without proper training and protection.
- Generally not advisable for casual or internet‑based practice.
If you encounter such instructions online, treat them as descriptive of certain tantric sub‑traditions, not as beginner practices.
## Practical Advice for a Serious Practitioner
**Study primary sources** (with translation help if needed):
  - Buddhist: *Dakini teachings* of Padmasambhava, *Vajrayoginī* sādhanās, texts on the Five Wisdom Dakinis.
  - Hindu: Śākta‑Tantra manuals, yoginī/dakinī sections in Purāṇas and Tantra śāstras (often in Sanskrit or vernacular commentaries).

- **Work with a teacher or community**:
  - For Buddhist practice, look for Vajrayana centers offering Vajrayoginī or dakini practices.
  - For Hindu Tantra, seek reputable Śākta or Kaula lineages with living gurus who emphasize ethics and safety.

- **Start with devotional, wisdom‑oriented mantras**:
  - For example, daily recitation of **OṂ ḌĀKIṇĪ HŪṂ PHAṬ** with simple visualization and prayer for insight, rather than attempting “summoning” for specific worldly gains.

Bhutni sādhanā is a tantric/folk practice aimed at invoking and “siddh” (mastering) a bhutnī—a female spirit or ghost-entity—so that she appears in dream or vision, answers questions, grants wishes, or serves the practitioner.  In many online sources it is presented as a quick, one‑day or three‑day ritual using specific mantras, yantras, and night‑time settings, often under a champak (champa) tree or at a river confluence.
Below is a concise, structured overview suitable for research, writing, or content creation, along with important cautions.

## What is a Bhutnī?

In North Indian folk‑tantra and some Śākta traditions, a bhutnī (Sanskrit/ Hindi: भूतनी) is:

- A female bhūta (spirit/ghost), often understood as the unsettled soul of a woman who died with strong desires or trauma.
- Sometimes classified among yoginīs, ḍākinīs, pretnīs, or piśācinīs, depending on the lineage.
- Believed to be capable of revealing hidden knowledge, giving wealth, fulfilling desires, or appearing as a consort (“patnī‑rūp”) to the sādhak once siddh.
Texts and videos often list multiple bhutnīs (e.g., Nava Bhutnī, Aṣṭa Bhutnī) with names like Sindūrīṇī, Vimalā Sundarī, Nāṭī, Kāmeśvarī, etc., each with her own mantra and function.

## Common Bhutnī Mantras (from public sources)

Different sources give different formulas. Some widely cited examples:

### General Bhutnī / Bhuteśvarī mantra (one‑day dream‑vision method)

A simple, frequently shared mantra for dream‑contact:

**भ्रं भ्रं भ्रं भुतेश्वरी भ्रं भ्रं भ्रं फट्**
(Bhraṁ Bhraṁ Bhraṁ Bhuteśvarī Bhraṁ Bhraṁ Bhraṁ Phaṭ)

Typical outline (from blogs/videos):

- Perform after 10 p.m., alone, in a quiet room.
- Take a bath, wear clean (often red) clothes, sit on a red āsana.
- Do guru pūjā and chant your guru mantra (if you have one).
- Draw a yantra on white paper (instructions vary; some specify banyan‑wood “pencil” and a paste of banana peel + vermilion as “ink”).
- Light an oil lamp, keep the yantra in front, and chant the mantra 11 mālās (or a set count) on a rudrākṣa rosary.
- After japa, burn the yantra in the lamp flame, apply the ash as a tilak on the forehead, recite the mantra three times, mentally state your question three times, then sleep.
- The bhutnī is said to appear in dream, answer questions, or give signs.

### Specific Bhutnī mantras (from tantric blogs)

These are more elaborate and often tied to multi‑day sādhanā:

- **General Bhutnī mantra (8,000 repetitions over several days)**
  **ॐ हों क्रुं क्रुं क्रुं कटु कटु ॐ अमुकं क्रुं क्रुं क्रुं ओं अ:**
(Oṁ Hoṁ Kruṁ Kruṁ Kruṁ Kaṭu Kaṭu Oṁ Amukaṁ Kruṁ Kruṁ Kruṁ Oṁ Aḥ)

  Instructions often include:
  - Start on Dvādaśī and continue until Caturdaśī, or begin on a Saturday and complete in seven days.
  - Chant 8,000 times sitting under a champak tree, only at night, using a rudrākṣa mālā.
  - At the confluence of rivers, perform night pūjā; when the “mahānāṭī” (chief bhutnī) appears, the sādhak accepts her as a spiritual “wife” and takes a vow.

- **Sindūrīṇī Bhutnī mantra**
  **ॐ ह्रीं क्रू क्रू क्रू कटु कटु ॐ सिन्दूरिणी क्रू क्रू क्रू ॐ**
(Oṁ Hrīṁ Krū Krū Krū Kaṭu Kaṭu Oṁ Sindūrīṇī Krū Krū Krū Oṁ)

- **Nāṭī Bhutnī mantra** (fragmentary in sources)
  **ॐ ह्रीं क्र . क्र कटु कटु ॐ नटी क्र. क्र. क्र. ॐ द्यः**
(Oṁ Hrīṁ Kra Kra Kaṭu Kaṭu Oṁ Naṭī Kra Kra Kra Oṁ Dyaḥ)

- **Vimalā Sundarī Bhutnī**
Some videos describe a temple‑based method: prepare a maṇḍap with white sandalwood paste in a Śiva temple, worship with kaner (nerium) flowers, offer dhūpa/dīpa/gūgulu, then chant a specific mantra 5,000 times after 108 preliminary repetitions.

## Typical Sādhanā Patterns

Across sources, bhutnī sādhanā usually shares these elements:

### 1. Timing and Place

- **Time**: Night, especially after 10 p.m. or around midnight.
- **Days**: Often started on Saturdays, Dvādaśī–Caturdaśī, or during Kṛṣṇa Pakṣa/Amāvasyā.
- **Place**:
  - Under a champak (champa) tree.
  - At a river confluence (saṅgam) or secluded/deserted spot.
  - Sometimes in a Śiva temple courtyard (for certain bhutnīs like Vimalā Sundarī).

### 2. Preparations

- Bath and clean (often red) clothing; red āsana.
- Guru pūjā and guru mantra recitation.
- Rudrākṣa mālā for japa.
- Offerings: oil lamp (dīpa), incense (dhūpa), gūgulu (benzoin resin), flowers (often red or specific to the bhutnī).

### 3. Mantra Japa and Yantra

- Fixed counts: 108, 1,008, 5,000, 8,000, or 11 mālās, depending on the method.
- Some methods require drawing a yantra on white paper with special “ink” (e.g., banana‑peel paste + vermilion) using banyan wood as a pen, then burning it after japa.
- The sādhak may be instructed to mentally invoke a specific bhutnī by name (e.g., “Sindūrīṇī”, “Nāṭī”, “Vimalā Sundarī”) before or during japa.

### 4. Expected Siddhi (Results)

Sources claim that when siddh:

- The bhutnī appears in dream or vision, sometimes daily.
- She answers questions about past, present, or future; reveals hidden things; or grants material boons (wealth, success, attraction).
- In some narratives, she becomes a constant spiritual companion or “patnī‑rūp” (wife‑form) who protects and serves the sādhak.

- **Psychological risk**: Night‑time solitary rituals focused on spirits can intensify fear, anxiety, or dissociative experiences, especially for beginners.
**Ethical and lineage issues**: Authentic tantric lineages usually require:
  - A qualified guru’s permission and guidance.
  - Ethical preparation (truthfulness, non‑harming, restraint).
  - Protective mantras and cleansing practices before working with spirits.
